Infrared

Infra-Red (IR) Measurement of Gas Concentration

Some gases absorb radiation in the infra-red part of the radiation spectrum. The absorption will vary depending on the precise wavelength, and each gas has its unique spectrum of where its absorption varies with wavelength. By choosing a wavelength that a particular gas absorbs at strongly in comparison with other gases in the mixture, enables that gas to be uniquely measured in the mix. The amount of radiation absorbed will vary according to the molecular density, or concentration, of the gas in question.
