Anaerobic Digester Gas Monitoring

February 2010
Anaerobic digesters are now commonplace at water utility companies as the waste-to-energy possibilities of sewage become apparent. Thus water companies are increasingly interested in gas analysis. Methane is the fuel gas and needs to be measured to optimise generator set efficiency. Depending on the source of the substrate, hydrogen sulphide can be present in variable quantities and high levels can destroy expensive generators.

The GIR5000 biogas analyser from Hitech Instruments is a 2 or 3 gas analyser measuring methane and hydrogen sulphide with an option of oxygen or carbon dioxide. Hitech design and manufacture according to customers applications and other sensors will be available on demand... view more

Syngas Analysis

January 2010
Syngas (synthetic gas) is a mixture of hydrogen and carbon monoxide usually formed by gasification and used as a fuel or intermediate in production of ammonia or ethanol. The gasification process can use a wide variety of organic waste as substrate. Therefore these projects are high on the agenda of many waste-to-energy companies.

Hitech Instruments, the UK gas analyser specialists, are experts in hydrogen analysis using katharometers (thermal conductivity sensors). The K1550R hydrogen analyser is available to measure hydrogen in a background of nitrogen and carbon monoxide as a standard product. However, with syngas usually containing a significant percentage of carbon dioxide a compensation input can be provided for this. The IR600 carbon dioxide analyser from Hitech can provide this input. Thus Hitech provide a solution for all the gases of interest in this application... view more

Respiration Gas Analysis

July 2009
With the London Olympic Games drawing ever closer there is increasing focus on sports science in the UK. Lung efficiency is key to any athlete’s performance and Douglas bags are routinely used to capture exhaled air for analysis. Now, the GIR250 analyser from Hitech Instruments is available to measure the oxygen and carbon dioxide contained in the Douglas bag.

The GIR250 is a compact bench top unit with carry handle for easy portability. The analyser is delivered fully calibrated and complete with flowmeter, control valve and internal pump. Two alarms and a 4-20 mA output for each gas provide full connectivity... view more

Achema 2009

May 2009
Hitech Instruments were delighted with the Achema exhibition. There was a lot of interest in the GIR5000 landfill and biogas analyser, especially the fact that it is ATEX certified unlike some competitor models. Syngas and the Hitech solution to the measurement of it were another area of great interest. The number of leads exceeded expectations in both quality and quantity. “It was nice to meet many of our international distributors as well as key customers from our most important markets” commented Craig Holmes, Sales & Marketing Manager “new distributors have been appointed and orders received as a direct result of exhibiting”.
