Hitech keeps you packing
January 2009
Modified Atmosphere Packaging (MAP) is crucial to the food industry. Increasing shelf life, preserving quality and improving presentation are just some of the benefits.
Modified atmosphere refers to the practise of changing the gas composition from air by either increasing the oxygen level (e.g. for red meat) or, more often, decreasing it to stop spoilage. The ‘filler’ gas is usually a mix of carbon dioxide and nitrogen dependent on the application.
Hitech Instruments were one of the first UK companies to design and manufacture dedicated instruments for MAP testing and continue to sell and support quality instruments for this market. Most popular is the MAPtest 3050 a rugged benchtop instrument measuring oxygen and carbon dioxide (and nitrogen from the balance).
Auto-calibration, data storage, choice of sampling methods and a set of consumable are all standard features. Sampling is performed either by use of the internal pump and sample probe or by injection through a septum port.
Unlike some of the handheld products the MAPtest 3050 is designed for a long life. Service contracts and inexpensive consumables result in a low cost of ownership. Hitech endeavour to have hire units always available to cover service periods. Ex-hire units are sometimes available at bargain prices.
Hitech are currently giving away free MAPlog software with all new instruments, so why not ask for a quotation today?
Hitech take great pride in the level of technical support they provide, directly in the UK and internationally through a network of distributors and agents. New distributor enquiries are always welcomed.
