Respiration Gas Analysis

July 2009

With the London Olympic Games drawing ever closer there is increasing focus on sports science in the UK. Lung efficiency is key to any athlete’s performance and Douglas bags are routinely used to capture exhaled air for analysis. Now, the GIR250 analyser from Hitech Instruments is available to measure the oxygen and carbon dioxide contained in the Douglas bag.

The GIR250 is a compact bench top unit with carry handle for easy portability. The analyser is delivered fully calibrated and complete with flowmeter, control valve and internal pump. Two alarms and a 4-20 mA output for each gas provide full connectivity.

Hitech choose to use an electrochemical cell for oxygen analysis and an infrared sensor for carbon dioxide. The electrochemical cell is sufficiently fast, accurate and more economical than other technologies for this application.

As with all Hitech instruments, the GIR250 is delivered fully calibrated and has an intuitive user interface. Test and calibration (if required) is a simple process. The robust electronics make it highly reliable in the sports science environment. Ease of use and reliability – a good combination.

Oxygen and carbon dioxide measurement are also key parameters in other industries. Fermentation monitoring and bulk fruit and vegetable shipping are other applications suitable for the GIR250.

Hitech support customers directly in the UK and worldwide through a network of distributors and agents.
